Safety Services Company (SSC) was founded in 2003 by Devon Dickinson, inspired by a desire to build something rooted in purpose, people, and transformation. Having worked as a safety consultant, Devon saw both the challenges companies faced with compliance and the deeper opportunity to make safety simpler, more accessible, and people-focused.

From day one, SSC embodied authenticity, grace, and love for people. Devon launched the company inside an Arizona prison facility, believing in second chances and recognizing the untapped potential in people often overlooked. He trained incarcerated men to become skilled professionals, creating safety solutions for companies across the country. The culture was one of hope, belonging, and redemption. Many of these individuals became foundational to SSC's early success, and this commitment to human potential remains central to our culture today.

As SSC grew, it remained focused on collective growth. We expanded inside and outside prison systems, allowing formerly incarcerated individuals to continue advancing professionally. These efforts helped break cycles of incarceration and fueled a sense of purpose and pride across the team. Over the next decade, SSC earned multiple spots on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies in America, a testament to our resilience, positivity, and teamwork.

In time, SSC was acquired by a private equity firm. The next chapter brought investment and change, but also challenges. By early 2023, the business faced a critical turning point. Despite the obstacles, Devon remained anchored in trustworthiness and a deep belief in SSC’s purpose. The board appointed Matt Lincoln as CEO, with Devon stepping in as Executive Chairman, reflecting a shared commitment to revitalizing the business and culture through trusted leadership.

Their shared commitment to flexibility, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making sparked a cultural and operational transformation. Just months later, on March 1, 2023, Devon and partner Tommy Cheng purchased SSC back, restoring full ownership and reigniting the original mission.
