Through an Alliance Program, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is set again to produce a series of training resources on motor vehicle safety, material handling, and slip, trip and fall hazards. The training resources will be specifically designed for employers and employees in the landscape services industry.
This project is a collaboration between OSHA and the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET). The training resources will be disseminated through electronic media and assistance tools, conferences, OSHA’s and PLANET’s websites, and events like GIE+EXPO, Green Industry Conference and Student Career Days. Landscape services industry employees who will benefit from these training resources include youth, as well as those with low literacy levels and limited English-speaking abilities.
“Many of the injuries suffered by employees working in this industry are preventable,” said Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA. “Our Alliance Program has had great success in developing products and resources that identify and offer solutions to common hazards. We are pleased to join with an organization that values occupational safety and health and look forward to a successful relationship.”
PLANET was founded in 2005 after the merger of the Associated Landscape Contractors of America and the Professional Lawn Care Association of America. Its members include green industry organizations that build, design or manage landscape projects, offer lawn care services, interior plantscaping and other services in the landscape industry.
