Learning about safety and health standards are easier now than you think. Proof: More and more training courses in this field are offered in various universities and colleges. Of course a certificate or degree in this area doesn’t just translate to knowledge of safety and health standards.
In Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) alone, there are about 1,000 students enrolled to earn the Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) credential. This credential gears towards one of five safety specialty tracks: construction, oil & gas and petrochemical, general industry, emergency response and aviation.
Things are even easier with the cooperative agreement among TEEX, San Juan College (SJC), Texas A&M University-Commerce and the New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Bureau. TEEX’s CSHO certificate holders can now opt to transfer up to 18 credits to the SJC Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Occupational Safety online degree program.
TEEX offers a wealth of safety and health training programs. Some of these major programs are the following:
- Construction Safety
- Occupational Safety and Health
- OSHA Train-the-Trainer
- Certified Safety and Health Official program
- Environmental Safety and Health
- Oil & Gas and Petrochemical Safety
- Hydrogen Sulfide Train-the-Trainer program
- Continuing Education Units
- Spanish Language Safety and Health Training
- Leadership and Management
TEEX is considered the OSHA Training Institute Southwest Education Center. While its headquarters is located in College Station, Texas, its classes are conducted at TEEX facilities throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

hi, NNOLI, Austin I. i’m sure you’ve seen quite a number of online certificate courses in this area. i have to admit i have yet to hear about free ones offered. good news, though, is some schools/teachers offering these courses could give you credit for lessons or units that you already know or have already mastered. in a way you get a discount. this is one advantage if you immerse yourself in free lessons, workshops, seminars, etc. about occupational health and safety. il send you the details through email.
