Today it is my pleasure to showcase a great post written for us by John Dony, from the National Safety Council. As you know, the NSC is arguably the country’s headquarters for Health and Safety information. Their efforts in promoting and supporting injury prevention and workplace safety are unparalleled by any. John Dony contacted me regarding the 2008 Robert W. Campbell award, which is a highly prestigious honor given to companies who go above and beyond the bare minimum, and strive to provide an excellent working environment for their employees, customers and the rest of the world. Without further introduction, I give you John’s words :

The Robert W. Campbell Award is currently accepting applications for the 2008 Award year. This international Award honors organizations that achieve high levels of excellence by integrating environmental, health and safety (EHS) management into their overall business operating system.
Built upon scientific rigor and using an evidence-based case study approach, the Award serves as a catalyst toward understanding the intrinsic value of EHS in business excellence and sustainability. To promote leading edge integrated EHS management systems, exemplary submittals are shared with organizations and educational institutes worldwide through its network of 22 Global Partner organizations.
Much of the success of this Award program relies upon the Award’s high-quality expert reviewers and their diligence in providing unbiased evaluation and constructive feedback to the participating companies. Nominated and approved by the Global Partner organizations, the Award currently has over 50 volunteer experts serving on its international review panel representing management, labor, academic, and government perspectives.
The Award has received a wide variety of high quality submittals from manufacturing, healthcare, food, service, information technology, mining, energy, and transportation industries around the globe. The selection of winners is made through multiple layers of cross-comparisons, on-site assessment, and examination by the Campbell Award Executive Committee.
Since 2004, the Award has recognized winners such as Noble Corp, Johnson & Johnson, Alcan Inc, DynMcDermott, and The Bahrain Petroleum Company. Each of these companies have become active spokespersons and advocates of EHS and have contributed to the development academic-grade case studies that will educate and influence future generations of business leaders.
This year, in order to best capture the wide variety of EHS systems in place around the world, the Campbell Award may recognize high-achieving companies as Honorable Mentions in addition to naming winner(s). Final submittals for the Campbell Award must be postmarked by May 31, 2008.
