Child fatalities on farms growing

A report released in early September by the Alberta Centre for Injury Control & Research concludes agriculture-related deaths among children have increased 5.8 percent from 1992 to 2009.

During the same time period the number of children living on farms declined more than 50 percent.

Despite this decline 69 youths lost their lives on a farm during the 18-yeartime frame, the majority of them were 5 to 9-year-old.

The statistics do not provide detail as to whether those injured were farm residents or visitors.
