10 Most Dangerous Jobs

Part 2 of 3

We are counting down the Ten Most Dangerous Jobs in the country based on recent data gathered by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. These 10 jobs have the highest risk of fatality in the country as demonstrated by the number of fatalities for every 100,000 employees.

People always say that you can take all the safety precautions that you can but accidents happen to the most unlikely of people and at the most inopportune times. Still, safety and safety precautions are non-negotiable in any industry. So to boost our safety knowledge in these industries where the risk of accidents and fatalities is high, let’s find out what makes the jobs dangerous and what risks these workers face every day.

7. Electrical power-line installers and repairers

FATALITY RATE: 29.1

Electrical power-line installers and repairers not only face the dangers of working far above the ground they are also often exposed to hazardous equipment. These workers are also at risk to electrocution from contact with high-voltage power lines. With this kind of job, workers cannot afford to lose focus; one wrong move may result to a fatal accident.

6. Roofers

FATALITY RATE: 29.4

The data gathered by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that 15% of all work related deaths are results of falls, 19% of these are from roofs. Working on high-rise buildings and sky scrapers, roofers are always at risk of falling through old roofing, skylights and scaffolds.

5. Farmers and ranchers

FATALITY RATE: 39.5

Farmers and ranchers are at risk when working with tractors and other heavy equipment. One possible cause of the high fatality rate in this occupation is that 20 percent of the workers are over 65 years of age. Studies show that older workers are less likely to survive work related injuries than their younger counterparts in other industries.

There are a lot of different dangers that these workers face every day but with proper training these hazards can all be avoided. Knowing what safety precautions to take is very important. Make sure that everything you have learned in safety training is used and applied in all aspects of your job.
